Reinier Eikelenboom
finished his training as a worker in precious metals in
1975 at the Academy for Applied Arts in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
From 1975 till 1978 he had a gallery annex workshop in Venlo,
after which he travelled Europe and settled in France for almost
2 years.
From 1980 till 1987 he had a studio in Amsterdam, from where he
left for Barcelona and settled as an independent designer. Here
it was that he got the inspiration to design the World Citizens,
a series of clocks of a very outstanding design, which are now
being sold in the Netherlands, Germany and the USA. From the way
in which Reinier uses form and colour one can clearly distinguish
the influences of Miro and Mariscal.
Since 1993 Reinier takes part in Zône,
a gallery for applied arts in Leiden, the Netherlands.
Reinier’s paintings are made up of melted metal and different
kinds of paint, in which the shape of the melted metal determines
the composition of the paintings. This process calls for a rapid
method of working which in its turn leads to beautiful, almost
incomplete and rough results. One literally looks at frozen movements
which give the often cartoon-like figures a dramatic character.
The usage of the bright colours in combination with the metal
make up a melancholy overtone; it seems as though the figures
are telling us a story that is being instigated by the almost
book-like titles that Reinier gives to his paintings, such as
“2 Days in Paradise, or I am going to clean the window”.
Also in this the artist seems to instigate something that then
is as yet incomplete and rough, as if he quickly and hastily retreats
again, which in the end leaves the observer a lot of room to make
up his own story.

De 1975 à 1978, il travaille dans son
atelier à Venlo (Pays Bas) puis voyage pendant 2 ans en
Europe et s'installe quelques années en France.
De 1980 à 1987, il a un atelier à Amsterdam, puis
encore à la recherche de nouvelles ambiances et idées,
il part à Barcelone (Espagne) C'est là qu' il trouve
l'inspiration pour créer ses "World Citizens",
une série d'horloges d'un design très personnel,
avec des formes et des couleurs dans lesquelles on peut retrouver
l'influence de Miró et Mariscal. Ces horloges sont surtout
vendues aux Pays Bas, en Allemagne et aux Etats Unis.
Depuis 1993, Reinier prend part à Zône,
une galerie artistique de Leiden (Pays Bas).
Les matériaux avec lesquels Reinier crée
ses œuvres sont le métal et diverses peintures.
La composition de base est produite à partir du métal
fondu, qui dans un processus rapide rend un premier résultat
brut. Du langage du métal solidifié, naissent des
personnages semblant venir d'un monde théâtral ou
de bande dessinée.
Les couleurs joyeuses, combinées avec le métal donnent
à ses œuvres un accent mélancolique.
Dans chaque œuvre, les personnages racontent une histoire,
qui porte un titre poétique évocateur, comme: "deux
jours au paradis, ou bien je vais nettoyer les fenêtres"…
Ainsi, il reste volontairement dans le brut et l'incomplet, laissant
libres le regard et l'imagination du spectateur.

Tot 1978 had hij zijn galerie-werkplaats in Venlo,daarna heeft
hij door europa gezworven en werkte zo’n 2 jaar in zuidfrankrijk.
Van 1980 tot 1987 heeft hij als zelfstandig ontwerper gewerkt
in Amsterdam,waarna hij voor nog eens 2 jaar naar Barcelona vertrok.Hier
vond hij de inspiratie voor de Worldcitizens,een zeer bijzonder
vormgegeven serie klokken, maar waarbij de tijds aanduiding op
de tweede plaats komt.Reinier levert zijn klokjes voornamenlijk
aan Galeries van moderne musea,zoals museum Beelden aan Zee.Zijn
kunstwerkjes zijn inmiddels in vele landen verkocht o.a. in de
Verenigde Staten, Duitsland, Frankrijk en Nederland. In het gebruik
van kleur en vormentaal zijn duidelijk invloeden terug te vinden
van de kunstenaars Miro en Mariscal.
Van 1993 tot op heden is Reinier lid van de vereniging voor Toegepaste
kunst: Zône te Leiden.
Het materiaal waar reinier de schilderijen mee maakt is metaal
en verschillende soorten verf.
Met het gesmolten metaal schetst hij zijn composities.Dit vraagt
om een snelle werkwijze dat een mooi rauw resultaat oplevert.
Er is hier letterlijk sprake van gestolde bewegingen die de dikwijls
cartoon achtige figuren een dramaties karakter geven.
De vrolijke kleuren in combinatie met het metaal geven de schilderijen
een melancholieke ondertoon. De figuren lijken een verhaal te
vertellen,door de werken boekachtige titels te geven zoals "2
Days paradise or i am going to clean the window", maakt reinier
hier toe een aanzet. Ook hier blijft hij in het rauwe en onaffe,als
of hij snel zijn zijn hand weer terug trekt. Hiermee biedt hij
de toeschouwer ook veel ruimte tot het maken van een eigen verhaal.
